Broken hope is when our hope is no longer believable to us. When we wish for something we do not have hope of ever attaining it. When I have an on going struggle in an area I would press in with my faith and meditate on the scriptures and speak the good over the situation with little change. Meditating and speaking the word over the situation is all good but even after waiting a long period the results were not what I had hoped for. Then one day Holy Spirit opened my eyes as I read this scripture:
James 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
My struggle did not change much because of my wavering. I was working on my faith but it was really my hoped for thing that was broken. I had lost hope for the “hoped for thing”. As we read that faith is the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen we are reminded the substance that fills our hope is faith. If our hope is broken or not assured and in place that God can accomplish this for us and through us then our faith has nothing to fill.
If you have struggled in an area for a long time is it your faith that is not working? You may have lost hope as I did because of the length of time you have waited for what you were hoping for. Step back and look at the situation and ask yourself if you have hope of receiving what you want? Has the delay in seeing it to come to pass in your life caused you to lose hope?
For surely there is a latter end (a future and a reward), an your hope and expectation shall not be cut off. Proverbs 23:18
